Protocol developed to replicate current industry standards for lithium-ion battery propagation testing as well as fire suppression certification testing outlined in UL 9540A 4th edition and UL 711 8th edition.
Three separate tests focused on different scenarios and environments to ensure reliability and versatility.
EV Battery Stack Fire Test
- 57 kWh prismatic battery
- Burning at ~800°C or ~1500°F with full thermal runaway
- Time to extinguish: ~15 mins
- Used ~120 gallons of solution
- No re-ignition of the fire occurred

E-Scooter Battery Fire Test
- 1 kWh 18650 NMC battery
- Burning at ~650°C or ~1200°F with full thermal runaway
- Time to extinguish: ~4 secs
- Used ~0.33 gallons of solution
- No re-ignition of the fire occurred

Small Cylindrical Battery
Stack Fire Test
- Nineteen 1865 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries
- Burning at ~540°C or ~1000°F with full thermal runaway
- Used ~.13 gallons of solution
- Time to extinguish: ~4 secs
- No re-ignition of the fire occurred
